24mbit.... in my dreams...

Hi everyone,

I'm an erasmus student, and together with my flat mates we signed the contract for 24mbit line. So far, the fastest download we experienced was around 500 kBps, which is around 4.000 mbps. It is 6 times slower then we are paying for. Not to mention that the router is synchronized to 20147100 bps.

What am I to do? We are 5 students, and we can not even watch a frickin NBA match over the internet, because the video is being buffered every few seconds.

Out router is Xavi x7868r, which I personally think is a piece of crap, since it setup menu is a mess.

What should I do so that I get the internet connection to be a working 24 mbit???

Clix email support is like talking to a wall.

i suppose you know that xDSL connection have some limitations... although you're synchronized close to 20mbps which let me think that there's nothing wrong with the connection but probably with the servers you're trying to use..

anyway please test your speed with three simultaneous downloads from clix's ftp..

where and from do you watch those NBA games?

media player?

try to use clix's proxy.

on internet explorer, go to options, then connections, then lan definitions.

there define "proxy.clix.pt" without the "" in port 80, and check the box of ignoring local addresses.

on media player go to options, network, check all the boxes, except "use ports..."

and then, below, put all the protocols in automatic detection.

I now the limitations of the copper, I worked on a fiber optic network project in my home town, so I'm very familiar with the background, but the fact that the speeds that I get (i downloaded the Clix's test files two days ago, 4 files simultaniously, the cumulative speed was around 600 kbps) are 6 times lower then they were supposed to be. I would be extremely glad if I got like 2,5 mBps...

Please, check your line's attenuation and SNR using Xavi and post the values here please. Also post the downstream/upstream values to better understand your issue.
